The Hunter Joint Organisation hosted an online webinar on behalf of Centre for Organic Research (CORE) that  discussed the science of advanced biofiltration technology and looked at case studies of this technology in Newcastle. The event format  included presentations and panel discussions from the Hunter Joint Organisation, CORE, the City of Newcastle, Starwater and the University of Newcastle, and well as interactive Q&A sessions.

Working alongside scientists from the University of Newcastle, the CORE has designed a new technology that uses household waste to produce a stormwater filter soil. This is a world first and provides a nature-based replacement to the dwindling excavated sand desposits that are currently used in stormwater sand filters. This technology supports the transition to a circular economy model.

This event was for anyone who was interested in hearing about the new biofiltration technology developed by CORE that is made from a compost product, and its potential applications as a design solution. As the session dove into some technical detail, this was particularly relevant for professionals involved in the policy, specification and construction of filtration systems including Engineers, Landscape Architects, and Town Planners.
